You glance at each member of your team, trying to make eye contact. But what’s the use? Half of them don’t have their cameras turned on so, all you see are white initials in the center of a black box. The others can’t tell that you’re actually looking at them individually, or they do, but they don’t seem to care. You take a deep breath and ask someone specifically to share their thoughts. But the lack of enthusiasm is palpable. You try to stay positive, but even you have to gear yourself up for a Zoom call. Eighteen months ago, Zoom was a lifesaver. A way for you to connect with your coworkers, feel a sense of togetherness, and communicate almost as if you were in the same room. Now, it feels like a burden. Read more

How to Successfully Transition Employees Back to the Office

Many people found joy and ease that came with working remotely, getting to experience a refreshing work-life balance. However, others are counting down the days when they can work in their office, who find it easier to “leave work at work” when their work is separate from their home. As leaders navigate a hybrid work solution or bring their employees back to the office full-time, it’s critical to retain your best people and elevate employee satisfaction. Read more

Changing the Way We Work in a Post-Covid World

March 2020—when everything changed. You don’t need a play-by-play. You lived it. You can probably remember the shock, the uncertainty, the adjustments, the frantic search for toilet paper, of all things. You remember redecorating your house to create a usable office space and a classroom. You remember organizing your day so that you could do your work and help your children with theirs. You remember the endless days at home. The initial, “Okay, we’ve got this!” feeling soon drifted into, “How long are we really gonna do this?” But you did it. Two weeks turned into a year...or so. And you did it. You made it work! As the world begins to run back to “normal” you aren’t sure if you’re ready for it. You’re not sure you’re ready for what normal used to look like. The good news is, we probably aren’t making a U-turn. We’re pivoting to in-person meetings, and returning to physical office spaces that don’t resemble the dining room table. Read more

Support Productivity While Working Remotely

You know that feeling you get when someone reads something over your shoulder? (Maybe it’s been a while since we’ve all been practicing social distancing for nearly a year!) You instantly become distracted. Your eyes dart, trying to politely discern that someone is in fact invading your personal space. Then you turn, a confused and frustrated look on your face—is this really necessary you wonder? You couldn’t wait until I was finished reading, or finished writing, to read what is on my screen? We almost feel violated when someone breaks into our personal bubble or demands something immediately without giving us the time or space to complete the task alone.

Today, managers are learning how to give employees space, trust their productivity, and deflect the temptation to micro-manage. While 42% of employees currently work from home full time, managers must find healthy ways to support their team, or you risk losing your best employees. Read more

6 Ways to Thrive While You Work from Home

Zzz. Zzz. Zzz. Your phone vibrates and you glance at the clock. The alarm hasn’t gone off yet, but emails are coming in and your calendar reminds you of today’s deadline and an afternoon meeting. Your mind begins to spin, creating a mental to-do list before your feet hit the floor. You throw on a t-shirt and decide to skip the shower. Duty calls. Ambling into the kitchen, you hardly notice dark coffee percolating on the counter. You sit down at the kitchen table and open your laptop. When you first started working from home, it was a novelty. It created a fresh challenge and gave you a bit of reprieve from the normal stresses of a jam-packed schedule. But 10 weeks later? You’re over it. New stressors threaten your ability to find balance, connection, and motivation. If working from home is still your reality, here are six things you can implement today so that you don’t just survive this time, you thrive in it. Read more

4 Ways to Effectively Network During Quarantine

Too many days have passed since you met a new person, let alone spent time with someone who lives outside your home. Is anyone keeping track anymore? Perhaps you’re getting restless. At first, this whole “work from home” situation seemed like a fun challenge or even a nice reprieve. But it probably didn’t take long before you wanted “normal” to return. You’re ready to meet a potential client in person. You want to share a drink or a meal with the person who could help you land the promotion. But with social distancing still enforced in so many places, organically networking feels impossible. Rather than disengaging during this time, we want to help you find new ways to successfully network. Read more
